Spirit of the Crocodile – a joyous message from Aaron Fa’Aoso

Exciting news!

I am thrilled to announce the upcoming release of my children’s book Spirit of the Crocodile, co-written with my dear friend and talented colleague Michelle Scott Tucker.

This book holds a special place in my heart as it pays homage to the cherished stories from my childhood – those magical moments when our teachers would read to us, transporting us to worlds filled with wonder, like in Charlotte’s Web and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Spirit of the Crocodile is more than just a tale; it’s a vibrant journey through the rich culture of Torres Strait Islander heritage. It invites young readers to imagine themselves within the enchanting world of Saibai Island, where they can experience the beauty and depth of our traditions.

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Lyn White, Jacinta di Mase, Danielle Binks and the wonderful team at Allen & Unwin for their unwavering support. A special thank you to my partner in crime and co-writer Michelle, for sharing this journey with me.

Lastly, to my family and my partner Sonia – your love and encouragement mean everything to me. This book is dedicated to my beloved grandson Giovanni, who inspires me every day.

I am incredibly proud to share this piece of my identity as a Torres Strait Islander with the world. Let’s inspire the next generation to dream, imagine and explore!
