My friend Julie Hunt is the author of the inaugural Readings Children’s Book Prize winner – Song for a Scarlet Runner. I met Julie at Varuna, the Writer’s House and quite frankly she’s the nicest person ever. Good juxtaposition with Readings, the best bookshop ever! *
Julie’s had quite a winning 12 months, with her children’s picture book The Coat claiming the 2013 Children’s Book Council Award (CBCA) for Picture Books.
Read a lovely interview with Julie at the Readings Blog.
And the books? My kids love them. Buy multiple copies of both now and you’ll be all set with stocking fillers for Christmas and, until then, easy-to-wrap birthday presents for the young people in your life. I’m full of handy hints like that…
*No, I’m not working on commission, nor am I a Readings PR person. Sadly, no brown paper bags full of money have changed hands. Nor have I been offered cash for comment. I’ve not even been offered a sandwich and a nice cup of tea. Readings is simply my favourite bookshop. End of comment.
I agree! Am in the US now and have brought a copy of Song for A Scarlet Runner for my niece. Clearly we both have excellent taste. :)
